I am extremely excited to announce the RE-OPENING of Uptown Gym on SATURDAY JUNE 20, 2020.
Due to Covid-19, all gyms were to close on March 17, 2020 as per Alberta government direction.
All current memberships at that time were put on ‘freeze’ until re-open was permitted. Alberta government gave the go ahead for gyms to open in phase two launching Friday June 12. As you can imagine there was a lot of guidelines required to re-open and I have been working hard to make that happen as soon as possible. There will be some changes so please read on!
-Any membership time you had remaining as of March 17, 2020 will resume starting June 20, 2020. Your access will be activated, and you will receive an email with your new expiry shortly. You do not have to wait for your expiry email to get started back at the gym, I will email it to you either before or shortly after open.
-With the new guidelines, the gym is required to be staffed at all times to ensure compliance. NEW HOURS will be 5am-10pm, 7 days a week to start, and as we continue, I will gauge demand. You will need to schedule an appointment for your gym time in hour blocks. I will be sending another email by Friday June 19 with instruction on how to make gym appointments. Please only arrive 5-10 minutes before your appointment time. Hopefully this is temporary as we get through the threat of this pandemic and we can return to 24/7. (Please note that special arrangements can be made if these hours do not fit your schedule, contact me via email for enquiries.)
-Upon your first visit back to the gym there will be a quick re-orientation to the gym with the new rules and procedures. Please expect this when you come your first time back and be patient with us!
-Each time you attend the gym for your scheduled block of time you will need to fill out a quick health screening checklist. I will send the link for this included in the email regarding how to schedule a gym time. This will be verified by staff at your arrival. It is preferred you do the checklist on your own device before coming to the gym each day. As a last resort, there is a paper copy at the gym for you if you are unable to fill out the form online prior to your visit.
-Please arrive dressed and ready for your workout if possible. Washrooms will be available, but shower rooms will be closed temporarily due to Covid-19 guidelines.
-Please bring your own hand sanitizer. Staff will be checking that you have brought some. You will also need to bring your own sweat towel. The sweat towels have temporarily been removed due to Covid-19 guidelines.
-Only one person in the entry/exit way at a time. If someone is in the entry/exit, please wait outside for entry or inside the gym for exit until it has cleared.
-You are not required to wear a mask while you workout; it is actually considered dangerous since it inhibits oxygen intake and the increased moisture in the mask with heavier breathing from activity can cause problems with your breathing.
-As per Alberta Law, please do not return to the gym for 10 days if you’ve had any symptoms that are not related to a pre-existing illness or health condition: cough, fever, shortness of breath, runny nose or sore throat. As per Alberta Law, please do not return to the gym for 14 days if you have returned from international travel or are a close contact of a person with COVID-19.
-I have followed suggested guidelines to ensure precautions have been taken to protect your health during these times. I do feel with these guidelines implemented; you are protected the best we can at Uptown Gym. However, if you feel uncomfortable returning to the gym due to Covid-19, please email me to make special arrangements. Those with immune-compromised health and seniors may push their activation until stage three or until they feel safe, whichever is sooner. Otherwise, all current memberships will be activated starting June 20, 2020.
Please watch for future emails, facebook posts and on the website myuptowngym.com for ongoing updates as guidelines change and evolve.
I look forward to seeing you soon!! Stay safe, stay, healthy, be kind.
